History of Pubic Toupees
Pubic toupees have been around for centuries, and the first documented reference to one was in 1617, in John Tayor’s Three weekes observation and travel from London to Hamburgh. Pubic toupees were originally known as “merkins.”
An amusing report in the London periodical Mercurius Fumig in 1660 says, “The last
week was lost a Merkin in the Coven-
The writer Alexander Smith’s reference to a merkin in 1714, however, leaves no doubt about which kind is meant. He writes in his Lives of the most noted highwaymen:
“This put a strange Whim in his Head; which was, to get the hairy circle of her Merkin…This he dry’d well, and comb’d out, and then return’d to the Cardinall, telling him, he had brought St. Peter’s Beard.”
It is still possible to purchase “merkins” today. These are usually intended for people with hair loss problems and are pubic toupees that replicate the look of real pubic hair. Why would you want to do that, we wonder? Our philosophy couldn’t be more different!
The Vonk Philosophy
Our “pubic toupees” are all about being fun, creative and outrageous. We never try to replicate the look of real pubic hair, but look for playful and artistic ways of decorating or covering the genitals.
The possibilities are endless, and there is truly something for everyone. So, liberate yourself, let your imagination run wild, and think about the kind of Vonk Original™ that will best suit your individual personality!
